Q. How Fit Should I Be for the Gokyo Lake Trek?
While specific training isn’t mandatory, participants should possess general fitness, capable of sustaining 5-6 hours of daily walking and tackling uphill sections. Engaging in outdoor activities like jogging, hiking, or cycling beforehand can enhance preparedness and ensure an enjoyable trekking experience.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu Upon your arrival, our representative will be at the airport to receive you and transfer you to your pre-booked hotel.
Day 2: Flight – Kathmandu to Lukla (2850m) – Trek to Phakding (2610m) After breakfast, head to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for a scenic 30-minute flight to Lukla. The thrilling landing on the sloping runway sets the stage for an exciting trek. Start with an easy descent from Lukla to Phakding, passing through Sherpa pastoral lands, villages, and farms. Stay overnight at Phakding.
Day 3: Trek to Namche (3440m) Embark on a trek to Namche Bazaar, crossing suspension bridges, pine forests, and small villages. Enjoy glimpses of Dudh Koshi River. Arrive in Monjo, get permits sorted, and proceed to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital. Acclimatize and stay at the Lodge.
Day 4: Acclimatization day in Namche Explore Namche Bazaar, acclimatizing to the altitude. Visit the Museum of Sherpa Culture and traditional villages. Enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Everest.
Day 5: Trek to Dole (4200m) Climb towards Khumjung hill, pass through Monjo, and ascend to the scenic village of Dole. Witness stunning views of Cho Oyu and the surrounding landscape.
Day 6: Trek to Machhermo (4470m) Continue the uphill trek, passing through Dole, alongside the Dudh Koshi River. Reach Machhermo, surrounded by thorny bushes, scrub juniper, and views of Cho Oyu.
Day 7: Trek to Gokyo village (4790m) Follow a scenic path to Phangkha, cross the Ngozumpa Glacier, and witness the turquoise blue Longpongo Lake. Arrive at Gokyo village, by the Ngozumpa glacier, and enjoy breathtaking views.
Day 8: Gokyo village (Rest day – Hike to the fifth lake, 4870m) Take a rest in Gokyo valley and hike to the fifth lake. Optionally, climb the Scoundrel’s Viewpoint for panoramic views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu.
Day 9: Trek to Machermo (4470m) Descend towards Machermo via Phanga and Longonga, retracing the route from Gokyo.
Day 10: Trek to Dole Experience different views during the descent, meandering around obstacles, and enjoying great views of Cho Oyu and Cholatse.
Day 11: Trek to Namche (3440m) Descend from Dingboche to Namche via the Dingboche – Somare – Pangboche – Tengboche – Namche trail.
Day 12: Trek to Lukla (2840m) Descend back to Lukla through the forest of rhododendron and pines, passing Monjo, Phakding, and Nurning.
Day 13: Flight – Lukla to Kathmandu, Transfer to Hotel Enjoy the last view of the mountains during the flight back to Kathmandu. A representative will transfer you to the hotel.
Day 14: Free day in Kathmandu Enjoy a free day in Kathmandu.
Day 15: Final Departure Transfer to the airport for your departure, considering check-in time and hotel checkout time. If you have a late evening flight, inquire about half-day hotel use.
