Nar Phu Valley Trek

Altitude Adventure Nepal (AAN) – Nar Phu Valley Trek

The Nar Phu Valley Trek unveils the secrets of the Manang District, nestled in a lost valley. Recently opened to foreign trekkers, it remains a less-explored gem in Nepal’s Annapurna Region. Due to its challenging difficulty, a good fitness level and prior trekking experience are prerequisites.

Designated as a restricted trekking area by the Nepal Government, Nar Phu Valley demands a special permit, obtainable only through a registered trekking company, and a minimum of two people are required.

This captivating journey introduces you to Tibetan culture, religion, and lifestyle. Marvel at majestic snow peaks, traverse beautiful pine forests, encounter wildlife, wander through remote villages, past Chortens, and navigate narrow canyons leading to the secluded Nar and Phu villages.

Commencing from Syange or Jagat, an 8-hour drive from Kathmandu follows the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek until Koto Village, concluding at Jomsom. Crossing the Marshyangdi River from Koto Village, the trail ascends off the beaten track to Nar Phu Valley through a narrow gorge flanked by lush forests.

After exploring Nar Phu Valley, reach Ngawal Village via Kang-La Pass (5320m). Rejoining the Annapurna Circuit trail, head towards Manang. Continue to Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi, an ideal stop before tackling the challenging Thorong La Pass (5416m), one of the world’s highest. Post Thorong La, Muktinath awaits—a sacred site for Hindus and Buddhists, known for its 108 holy sprouts and eternal flame. Journeying to Jomsom and Tatopani follows, where hot springs offer a therapeutic soak. A night in Tatopani precedes the return to Pokhara, with the next morning’s journey leading back to Kathmandu.

Throughout the trek, witness ancient villages, wind-sculpted cliffs, narrow trails, old monasteries, Mani walls, Chortens, yak pastures, diverse ethnic groups, rich cultures, temples, caves, and wildlife.
